Summary

Q.How does multiplayer work in No Man's Sky?

A.No Man's Sky multiplayer is a hybrid of ambient, shared-world play and structured co-op via the Space Anomaly and Nexus, with cross‑platform save support and time‑limited Expeditions for group play.

More info

No Man's Sky doesn’t use a traditional MMO-style server; multiplayer is designed as an ambient, shared universe with optional, session-based cooperation. If you enable Ambient Multiplayer, you’ll occasionally see other travelers in the same star systems, and you can invite friends or join their sessions to play together. For more coordinated play, you can summon the Space Anomaly and use The Nexus to tackle multiplayer missions with others. The Nexus hosts four-player missions, while the Space Anomaly itself can accommodate a larger live crowd (up to 16 players at once on consoles and up to 32 on PC in earlier patches). These systems were introduced and refined during the Beyond era and subsequent updates to support social play and multiplayer missions. Beyond social hub and Nexus changes Nexus/multiplayer details .
