You can obtain one by rescuing a freighter under pirate attack (often free) or by talking to a freighter captain in space and purchasing it with units; once claimed, it becomes your main freighter and replaces any previous one. You can summon your freighter to your current location from the Quick Menu and dock/undock ships in its hangar, and you can access a bridge to manage your fleet. For deeper control, you can build a Fleet Command Room on the freighter to recruit and command Frigates and dispatch them on Expeditions to earn units, artifacts, and rewards.
